Dr. Franka Zlatić is a sociologist specializing in migration, youth identities, and transnational belonging. She earned her PhD in Sociology from the University of Nottingham (UK), where her research explored liminal identities among young migrants and their narratives of belonging. Her doctoral studies were funded by the prestigious Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship for Research Excellence (EU), which covered full tuition and a living stipend.
Dr. Zlatić holds both an MA and a BA in Cultural Studies from the University of Rijeka, Croatia. Her research contributions have received multiple accolades, including the Canadian Sociological Association’s Best Student Paper Award (2023) and the Best PGR Publication Prize from the University of Nottingham. She has also received several research travel grants and academic scholarships.
Her publications examine diverse aspects of migration, such as counter-mapping, migrant home-making, and ethical considerations in online ethnography. Her work has appeared in journals such as The Sociological Review, Ethnic and Racial Studies, and Sociologija i prostor. Dr. Zlatić has presented at numerous international conferences, including those organized by the Canadian Sociological Association, the European Sociological Association, and IMISCOE.
Before joining the University of Zadar, Dr. Zlatić held a faculty position at Jindal Global Law School, O.P. Jindal Global University in India. She also taught undergraduate and foundation-level courses in sociology, critical thinking, and research methods at the University of Nottingham. She is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA).
She has worked as a research assistant on multiple projects, including studies on family migration practices and British migrants in Bulgaria. In addition to her research and teaching, Dr. Zlatić has been active in academic service, serving as a postgraduate representative on the Research Ethics Committee and as an editor of the Enquire blog. She is fluent in Croatian and English and has participated in several EU-funded Erasmus+ projects focused on social inclusion, equality, and peacebuilding.
